We Did It!

We have crossed the finish line to our new home and community hub at 1400 NW Leary Way.

Together we raised nearly 14 million dollars to build the new Hub for Hope. THANK YOU!

“Big Blue” – our current home at 5130 Leary Ave N.W. – isn’t big enough to accommodate our needs. The lease is expiring, too!

so much need

When we began the search for a new home, the Ballard Food Bank building was already bursting at the seams. The pandemic increased the urgency for a new home as demands for food and other basic resources grew exponentially. In February 2020, 3,200 people visited the Food Bank or received food deliveries. We're currently seeing double that number, 6400 visits and deliveries each month.

Our new home, at 1400 N.W. Leary Way, is 11,000 square feet, which doubles the size of our facility.

double the size

It took months and months to find the right location and get funding to buy the land and kick off the construction process. Spectrum Development Solutions serves as the development manager. Graham Baba Architects designed the new building and Wilcox Construction is leading the construction. We will be able to serve more communities, including Licton Springs to Bitter Lake and up to 145th Street, where some of the most vulnerable populations in the region live.

Greater Capacity

Our grocery-store-style food bank will be co-located with a garden, spacious waiting area, and café where visitors can share food and community. The warehouse space will be 3,000+ square feet and will include additional sorting areas and storage space. This will make the Weekend Food For Kids and Home Delivery programs easier for staff and volunteers to operate. In addition, the Community Resource Hub will expand to provide visitors greater access to the resources they need including rent assistance, medical check-ups, case management, VA services, and more.

You helped us reach our goal

It has been a long process made exponentially more challenging by a global pandemic. But lead supporters from individuals, foundations, businesses, and government stepped up to get us started. Then our greater community gathered to help us realize our dream of owning our own building. Every bit helped and we greatly appreciate it!

WE STILL NEED YOUR SUPPORT

Now that we have a new home, we ask for your continued support as we expand our services, and even begin to offer new ones such as the Kindness Cafe. Your generosity means the world to us.

This has been a tremendous community effort!

Through the generosity and support of over 1,300 individuals, companies, and organizations, we made our goal! We are so thankful for the magnitude of support, from the smallest gifts of $5 to the largest of $1M!

A thank you to the City of Seattle, State of Washington, and individuals from all over our neighborhoods, the city, and beyond. Thanks to small and large Seattle businesses like Miri’s at Golden Gardens, Horseshoe Boutique, Market Street Shoes, Limback Lumber Co., and many more from the Ballard Alliance. Businesses like Amazon, Spectrum Development Solutions, Windermere Ballard, and Ethan Stowell Restaurants are just the tip of the iceberg of our supportive community.

Special gratitude to these foundations, community groups, and faith groups: Safeco Insurance Foundation, Rotary Club of Magnolia Foundation, Medina Foundation, M. J. Murdock Charitable Trust, Episcopal Church of the Ascension, Norcliffe Foundation, Gesner Johnson Foundation, Joshua Green Foundation Inc., Sunderland Foundation, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Vadon Foundation, Occidental Masonic Lodge #72 Ballard, and Ballard Kiwanis Memorial Foundation. All the people and businesses not noted above are just as integral to getting us to this moment. Thank you all!
