L's Story

I have always been sort of successful financially ever since I got out of college. I have never imagined that one day I will need help. Admittedly, I was a snob and lacked compassion.

My world collapsed with the birth of my son, and following a nasty divorce. I couldn’t manage a job while dealing with such apocalyptic era in my life, and hence made some bad decisions. Never in my life have I worried about putting food on the table until then. One thing leads to another, I have to say, it was a blessing in disguise.

I stumbled on Ballard food bank, volunteering my service while getting some free food. The food was amazing; fresh vegetables, various protein choices and fruits! I am eating better because of such amazing selection. And while interacting with others of my similar situation, I learn compassion, and I learn to share. It is very fulfilling knowing that we have such compassionate program: food bank. To end waste and redistribute food to those who needs them. Overall, this experience taught me about humility, compassion, kindness, and loving your neighbors and friends. Without experiencing kindness, one sometimes forgot about it. Way to go!
