Financial Assistance for Rent and Utilities

The Ballard Food Bank accepts applications for emergency rental and utility assistance from the first of the month to 5pm on the 12th. We are currently able to serve the following zip codes within Seattle city limits 98109, 98119, 98199, 98103, 98133, 98107, 98117, and 98177.

Education and employment

Shoreline Community College – Professional-technical and degree transfer programs, tuition assistance, and scholarships.

Uplift NW – Provides temporary job referrals, housing assistance, eyeglasses, and vision clinic.

Health and Well-being

Ideal Option – Office-based medication-assisted treatment for addiction to opioids, alcohol, and other substances – accepts Medicaid/Medicare/Tricare and most private insurance.

King County Public Health – The Mobile Medical program provides walk-in care, patient-led health and social services for people who are living homeless.

Molina Healthcare – Connects low-income Medicaid and Medicare-eligible clients to enhanced medical benefits, healthcare navigation, and Medicaid enrollment.

Neighborcare Health  Receive referrals for medical, dental, and vision care. Connect with an insurance eligibility Specialist.

Peer Seattle – Provides peer emotional support and development services to the LGBTQ community impacted by addiction, mental health and/or HIV. Family navigation offers support for people who have loved ones struggling with these challenges. 

Seattle Veterinary Outreach – Provides low- or no-cost services for pets.

Sound Health Mental health and substance use services.

Swedish Ballard Family Medicine – Blood pressure, weight, and glucose screenings with physicians onsite.

United Healthcare – Connects those with Medicaid and Medicare to enhanced benefits, healthcare navigation, and enrollment.

We Care Daily Clinics – Provides support for individuals living with opioid use disorder, including medication management, peer support, case management, and counseling. We Care provides transportation to and from treatment.

Washington Health Outreach - Washington Health Outreach improves community health by providing free and low-cost veterinary, health, and social services for our neighbors.

Housing and Homelessness

DSHS – DSHS specialists provide assistance with applying for cash and food assistance programs, requesting an EBT card, and determining eligibility for medical care or childcare.

Bridge Care Center – Clothing, outdoor gear, hygiene items, and other resources for people experiencing homelessness or economic hardship.

REACH – Case management and services for people experiencing homelessness.

Renting in Seattle – Ask questions about fair housing and your rights as a renter. Express your concerns around discrimination.

Solid Ground – Low-income housing assessments & service navigation.

Tenants Union Learn about your rights as a tenant.  

University Heights Vehicle Resident Outreach – Information and resources for vehicle residents.

Other Services

Byrd Barr Place – Assistance with bills from Seattle City Light, Puget Sound Energy, Seattle Public Utility bills (water, sewer).  Also oil, propane, or wood heating expenses.

Cell Phones – Providing access to free cell phones and data plans. Find eligibility requirements here

Denise Louie Child & Family Services – Early learning program resources and support for families with children ages 0 to 5. 

ORCA Lift – Sign up for half-price bus fares and senior, student, or disability ORCA card.  Replace a card or reload money.

Seattle Public Library – Free library cards, computer access, and other services.

Sustainable Ballard – Community members provide cards and letters, and mending services for clothing, backpacks, and other items.

VA Social Worker – Meet with a VA social worker to discuss discharge paperwork, housing options, and other resources available for veterans.
