Kindness Café

in Honor of David O’Neal

Everyone is welcome at the Kindness Café.

Here, we offer warm food, nourishing conversation, and a space for all.

From sandwiches and soups to a hot coffee on a rainy day, we’re serving up home-cooked meals, always made with love and at no cost to our community.

Please note: Guests are welcome to eat and drink at the Café. We ask to keep your visit to 30 minutes. Thank you!

We believe in the power of breaking bread together.

At the Kindness Café, we hope to provide nourishment to our community in the form of food, conversation, and shared experience. Whether it’s by trying new (and delicious!) recipes, jotting down a list of ingredients to shop for at the food bank, or training for a new job, this space will serve as a place for all to gather -- clients, volunteers, and staff alike.

The cafe is named after board member David O’Neal, his passion for our mission, and his belief in paying it forward.

David served on the Ballard Food Bank Board for over a decade, and believed profoundly in its mission and the powerful ripple effect of acts of kindness. He loved engaging with people - learning from them, cheering for them, connecting them. David’s family and friends hope when you visit The Kindness Cafe, his exuberance and love of life is palpable. Anyone who had the joy of knowing David can picture him sitting here sharing stories that would undoubtedly include his uproarious and infectious laugh. May David’s boundless spirit be ever-present in the Cafe and continue to inspire connection.

One thing that happens over food is a chance to bond. It’s a wonderful situation when two people come together and share a conversation over food. The people coming in to shop as well as the volunteers will have a safe and comfortable environment where they can sit down and hopefully have a shared experience. We will encourage folks from the greater community to come to the Kindness Café.
